David ex Machina

From fast food to t-shirts, most things in life come in three sizes. The internet is no exception… well at least for publishing platforms. Blogs are collections of long-form articles, direct transforms from their physical predecessors. At the other end of the spectrum, Twitter and other tweet-like services supply short-form messages that consist of a mere image, or a few words. And now there is Medium , a Goldilocks of a publishing platform. With the goal of quality content, Medium is attempting to blend the simplicity of a tweet with the customization of a blog, by focusing on the writing. I’m excited to see where it goes, and intrigued by the community Medium is trying to create. Having an independent publishing outlet is important to me, so I’ll continue to post to my blog . I have made a couple of improvements to the blog for your reading pleasure: Improved Commenting System ( Disqus ) Suggestions Tab ( Skribit ) The commenting system is a great enhancement over the standard Blogger framework, and will allow you to use a Facebook  account. Feel free to use the suggestions tab for posts you want written or any other blog inquiries you may have. Take the new features for a test drive as this is the first post fully utilizing them.

There has been some confusion surrounding the name of my blog? The purpose of this post is to settle all current and future rumors regarding the title "David ex Machina" once and for all.  Let me start by explaining the difficulty in choosing the name for a blog, or any website for that matter. It's hard. Ever heard the quote: "There are no new ideas. There are only new ways of making them felt." -Audre Lorde Well for the most part, it's true, and the best practical example of this is trying to register a domain on the web. I mean there's an entire business behind " domaining ," the business of buying and selling names on the internet, most easily appreciated by the sale of "sex.com" for $14 Million ( article )! There are a couple of ways around this however: actually come up with a new idea, be clever at rearranging words for your needs that still get the same message across (i.e. Digg ), or just take an ego hit and buy one.  I tri...

Dear Reader, Welcome to the second post of my blog, David ex Machina! You might be wondering, what makes this blog worthwhile enough to exist in the blogosphere? Well, nothing yet, but how about having an introductory post as the second one for starters? Joking aside, I have several reasons for writing a blog. Having finished school I finally have more time; blogging can become my new homework assignment. Blogging is a great way to improve my writing skills, and it can be very therapeutic: instead of storing my ideas in the catacombs of my mind, I can share them with the world and see if they amount to anything. It is time for me to stop being just a consumer of internet media, and become a contributor. Given all the publishing power we freely wield nowadays, it is almost an insult not to use it. Finally, with sites like Rapleaf and Peekyou  , I think it becomes more important to voice your own image on the web. So what's this blog going to be like? Unlike most blogs that cater to...
